Augmented reality trail launches at VRP Discovery Gateway

As part of Valleys Regional Park capital funding by Welsh Government, a new augmented reality explorer trail has been launched at a Discovery Gateway in Carmarthenshire County Council’s, Llyn Llech Owain Country Park.

Available to download via a new ‘Explorer Trail LLO’ app, visitors can explore the park whilst listening to its stories, its history and the exciting things that can be found there.

The trail launches as part of a series of improvements made to the park with the £185,000 awarded to Carmarthenshire Council from Valleys Regional Park in 2020. Visitors to Llyn Llech Owain Country Park can now enjoy the refurbished visitor centre, new education centre, revamped early years children’s playground, upgraded footpaths and the breath-taking Wellbeing Work-hub located near the lake.

The brand new Wellbeing Work-hub provides an alternative option to remote working whilst enjoying the wellbeing benefits of nature and biodiversity. Llyn Llech Owain is a superb location for a Wellbeing Work-hub within the South Wales Valleys. Providing a green space which is easily accessible from local towns and villages via the active travel network and, crucially, set within an environment which has proven to be a relaxing, engaging and creative space to work.

Leader of Carmarthenshire County Council, Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “Llyn Llech Owain Country Park is a beautiful place for families to enjoy, and we’re pleased to be investing in facilities for everyone to enjoy. As well as the new explorer trail and other physical improvements, we have created a Wellbeing Work-hub to give people a unique and peaceful place to work and meet which forms part of our economic recovery plan as we emerge from the pandemic.”

Phil Lewis, Valleys Regional Park Programme Lead, said: “It is brilliant to have Llyn Llech Owain in our family of Discovery Gateways. The diverse landscapes, and the existing and new facilities funded by VRP, provide an ideal showcase of the Valleys for our communities and visitors. We’re especially excited to see visitors engage with the new augmented reality experience and enjoy working in nature through the brand new Wellbeing Work-hub”.
